What is CrossFit Kids?

CrossFit Kids is a strength and conditioning program, for children age 10 and up, designed to improve a child’s motor skills and cognitive skills. We do this by incorporating functional movements used in everyday life into fun workouts and games. The goal of this program for each child is to

  • Get them excited about being healthy and exercising
  • Instill a lifelong definition of health, fitness and a positive body image
  • Create an environment where they  can learn from and support each other
  • Decrease risk of injury
  • Teach them life skills, such a concentration, problem solving, perseverance, dedication and goal-setting

How is CrossFit Kids run?

Each 1 hour class is run by a certified coach and is designed to make exercise fun! We teach kids to move better, safer and more efficiently to prepare them for the rest of their lives. The functional movements taught in class are movements that nature requires our kids to perform when they play – pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift, jump, etc. Each class begins with a stretch, warm-up, skill work and a workout or game using those skills taught in previous classes. Each movement can be scaled based on a child’s athletic ability, comfort and skill level. The intensity of our workouts is relative to each child and they are under close supervision of the coach.

What is my role as a parent with a child enrolled in CrossFit Kids?

We encourage parents to support their children and the class by cheering them on from the sidelines! However, if you choose to stay and be supportive, we ask that you respect the coach and the other children by resisting the urge to interrupt class or counter the coach’s training expertise. We also recommend encouraging a healthy lifestyle and a healthy, well-balanced diet at home. This will only help reinforce the lifestyle foundation we are building here are CrossFit The Flats!

What does CrossFit The Flats expect from my child when enrolled CrossFit Kids?

Each child should come to class prepared to have fun exercising and enjoy their time at CrossFit Kids! We expect every child to be respectful of each other and support one another. Cheering a fellow classmate onand seeing them push through a tough workout can sometimes be more rewarding than their own achievements. Each child should also come prepared for class (i.e. correct footwear, clothing, water or sports drink, etc.) We will not tolerate ANY form of bullying at CrossFit Kids, and ask that the parents support us in this serious matter.
